I think that perfectly round form is very cute.

It is 'egg yolk sauce' to enter inside. The outside mixed honey and an egg, sugar with and baked it.

Ichigo Daifuku (Strawberry Daifuku )

Jan 11, 2014

Ichigo daifuku is a kind of Japanese confection consisting of a strawberry inside 'daifuku', which is a rice cake stuffed with sweet bean paste. We can buy it from December around May when strawberries are in season. Sweetness of bean jam matches the acidity of the strawberry well. when strawberries are in season.

This strawberry is length of around 5 centimeters. I bought this at Tomiokaya in Mishima city.

Hoshigaki is a kind of dried fruit made by drying Japanese persimmons. When I bark an astringent persimmon produced in autumn and air it outside for 1-2weeks, it is in sweet dried fruit. The surface becomes white by itself when it dries up. It is not covered with sugar. The taste is sweet of nature, it is very delicious. I like it.

Sakura Mochi

Jan 9, 2014

Sakuramochi is a variety of wagashi, or Japanese confectionery, covered with a leaf of sakura. The style that dumplings wrapped with plant leaves like Sakuramochi is unique to Japan.

Sakuramochi can be eaten with or without the sakura leaf. In addition, form and the thickness of the rice cake seem to vary according to a district. This sakuramochi is thin that this rice cake is white and is transparent. The rice cake smelled the cherry tree and was unique taste. I am not sure that this taste s liked by a foreigner.

Omochi

Jan 6, 2014

Omochi means rice cake. In the house of my parents, we make rice cake every year-end. The handmade rice cake is delicious very sticky. This picture is sliced and dried rice cake. It was called 'kiri-mochi'.

It becomes the zoni when we stew this in vegetables and soup stock. Or, just bake it while it is hot and attach soy flour (Kinako) or wrapping it with a sheet of seaweed and putting soybean source on it. I think this is food necessary for Japanese life.

You can buy it at Fujinomiya-Omiya-yokocho.

Kurizenzai

Jan 4, 2014

Kurizenzai is sweet made with soft beans (e.g. adzuki) and chestnuts. These are types of bean paste made by boiling azuki and chestnut with sugar. Zenzai has some variations. For example, that are served in a bowl with mochi (sticky rice cake), shiratama dango (dumplings made of sticky rice flour called shiratamako), and with icecream and fruits.

The etymology of zenzai seems to be a Buddhism word, or it's said to come from the words of the Ikkyu reverend. All mean, "I feel that it is good and praise it" in Kanji.

I got this Kurizenzai from one of the relatives. Before eating, it should be heated using a microwave oven or hot water.
